The New CMF Phone: Modularity and Style in a Unique Device

Articles

CMF, the subsidiary of Nothing, has launched its new mobile phone, and as always, it brings something different that makes us want to know more.

The novelty in this case is modularity. On the back of the device, we find visible screws and a wheel at the bottom. This wheel not only allows you to change the back cover by yourself, but you can also use the thread it leaves when removed to add a series of accessories that make the phone much more interesting.

Although I don't know if teenage engineering, the brains behind the success of the Nothing Phone, are directly involved in this project, their influence is noticeable. The phone clearly follows the same playful style as the speakers they made for IKEA.

I find it a very fun and refreshing piece of work. However, I am left with a lingering thought about what could have been.

Imagine if the modularity was not limited to the exterior but also included the internal components. Being able to change the optics, the camera module, or even a larger battery... the possibilities would be endless. A phone like the one proposed by Fonkraft but with the touch of teenage engineering would be incredible!
